#100kChallenge – Update (22/03/18)
Welcome to another #100kChallenge update.
Best start with a confession…..
I have gone over budget!!! For the first time since I started my #100kChallenge I have gone over my £25 budget this month. 60p over to be exact. After I posted my Top Picks (link here) on Tuesday. I saw a cheap game and had to grab it, even if it meant going over slightly. Almost ashamed to admit but I bought Horse Racing 2016 this week (dear oh dear).
You may have noticed that the site has had another slight makeover. I created a new logo last week and was trying to update to fully incorporate the new logo. As of yet I haven’t found the right look so please bear with me while I make these cosmetic changes. Other than the look of the site it will be business as normal with regards to Top Picks and #100kChallenge updates.
Firstly here is the link to my Twitch Channel.
Having performed a few test runs on Mixer and Twitch and have decided to fully commit to the Twitch platform.
Over the past week I have been busy setting up the channel, completing a few tests and trying to develop a streaming schedule that works for me.
It gives me pleasure to announce that I will officially be launching the channel Monday 26th March – I will be live 9pm (GMT) until 1am (GMT). First game will be UFC 3 – so come check out my channel.
Expect to see achievement hunting, giveaways and even co-op with viewers.
Sea of Thieves
Well it has finally been released. Whats are everyone’s initial thoughts on this highly anticipated game? I have only jumped into it a few times (maybe 3 hours) so far. My intention was to play this loads upon release but I still found myself sticking to the challenge. Even if I did manage to unlock a few achievements whilst playing it.
It looks fantastic no question, for me the initial solo play was a little boring (and very difficult) and I would highly recommend finding yourself a crew to play with. However in all fairness I was still getting used to the controls and a general feel for the game. I have no doubt that with a bit more practise I will enjoy it much more on solo play and leading a crew on an epic voyage.
My maiden voyage
Once I set sail from the outpost I thought I would just have a sail around to explore, after quickly realising I was lost at sea I set anchor on a nearby (at least I think it was nearby) to explore and find some booty – alas no females in sight but I did manage to find a chest (as well as bananas, wooden planks and some gunpowder). I then set out to find an outpost but to no avail.
I had lost all hope and was ready to call it quits for the night when I spotted something ahead. Checking through my telescope I saw an outpost ahead (at least I thought it was an outpost). It was at this point while looking through my telescope I saw something flying through the air. Then it looked as though it was heading right for me, it was, and it was a cannonball. Turns out someone was already occupying the island I had set my sights on. My first thought was to ditch the scope and turn my ship port side and get out of there as fast as I could. I quickly lowered the sails and it was at this moment when a cannonball struck my ship.
Along with hitting my ship, I was somehow sent flying into the vast ocean. I quickly swam back towards my beautiful (and as yet un-christened) 1 man pirate ship. Then i realised my mistake. With lowering the sails and trying to make a quick escape, my ship was floating away from me at a much quicker pace than I could swim. I spent the best part of 10 minutes swimming after that stupid boat. Then I was eaten by shark – and when i say eaten – it scared the living shit out of my in doing so.
Still it was a great first impression – although like I said, a little slow playing solo.
- Last week gamerscore: 38,595
- Total gamerscore: 42,930
- Since the last update – An increase of 4,335
- Money spent since last update: £1.56
- Total March spend: £25.60 / £25.00
- Total Yearly spend: £73.98 / £75.00
Points gained – but from where?
Since the last update my points have come from:
- Horse Racing 2016 +1000
- Tower of Guns +1000
- The Walking Dead: A New Frontier +1000
- Sea of Thieves +15
- The Bridge +1000
- Tekken 7 +320
So the breakdown of where I earned my points since the last #100kChallenge update. 4 full completions, 1 AAA title started and a beat-em-up finished almost to completion.
Tekken 7 was very grindy after the story mode. Not a huge fan of this genre but happy to earn almost all the achievements. Another quick turnaround using Boomerang.
Horse Racing 2016 is just awful – a button basher of a game but I did buy it knowing what I was getting. I feel dirty for paying for it and using it like a cheap hooker.
The Walking Dead – what can I say about this series that hasn’t already been said. Great artwork, great story and great voice acting. I loved the development of Clementine again and will be upset when the series comes to an end with the next instalment.
My favourite game since the last #100kChallenge update though is Tower of Guns. Tower of Guns is available with Microsoft Game Pass and although the last few achievements took me ages (way longer than I would’ve liked) I really enjoyed it. Reminding me a little of DOOM with its style and feel. The game randomly generates levels making sure every time I played it was always a different experience. If you haven’t played this yet I highly recommend it.
What I’ve been spending?
So far this month I have spent:
- £1.56 spent on Horse Racing 2016
- £2.00 spent on Q.U.B.E.
- £1.67 spent on World II: Hunting Boss
- £3.99 spent on NORTH
- £13.99 was spent on Boomerang Rentals
- £2.39 was spent on Energy Cycle#
Total spend this month: £25.60 / £25.00
As already touched on I have gone over my budget for the first time in my #100kChallenge. I can live with 60p as this helped to boost my score by 1,000 points.

Till next time…
